At present there is a earthquake zone rating system used to indicate the likelyhood that earthquakes will occur in a given area. A seimic zone of four is given to areas with the highest chance of earthquakes. Zone one is given to areas with the lowest chance of earthquakes. Most of California is given a zone four. In Hawaii the islands of Ni'ihau and Kauai are given zone one. The Big Island of Hawaii, where the Kilauea volcano is currently erupting, is given a zone four.
